THE FIRST ‘DESIGN THINKING WORKSHOP’ HELD IN BENGALURU
UL organized a first-of-its kind ‘Design Thinking Workshop’ for 19 school teachers of grades 5 to 8 from all over Karnataka in Bangalore on 12th December, 2018. The objective of this workshop was for teachers too ideate on how to strengthen their role — as teacher mentors — in the Safety Club program, and encourage children to:
- Learn about what causes unintentional injuries Take action to prevent and combat such incidences, and
- Use the school as a hub to reach out to a larger community of people, including teachers and parents
The workshop largely focused on the ‘Empathy’, ‘Define’, and ‘Ideate’ stages of Design Thinking methodology. During the workshop, participants discussed their keenness to introduce a Safety Club in their schools, while also expressing immediate concerns about its implementation. Each group presented their plan to the rest of the team, who the collectively drew out a holistic scheme for its successful implementation.
The group’s zeal and proactiveness in making this project a success was overwhelming. In order to maximize the program’s impact, teachers also suggested tailoring it to meet specific needs, and expanding its reach beyond schools and into the larger community.
