National Safety Science Campaign 2019

About the Program

  • Safety Clubs
  • National Safety Science Quiz
  • Poster and Slogan Contest

Establishment of Safety Clubs in select schools across India is the biggest sustained activity planned for NSSC. Safety Clubs will conduct focused sessions for small groups of students. These participants will eventually vie for the badge of Safety Ambassador, which will be presented to the winners at an awards event. Safety Clubs will have contact classes wherein the teacher-mentor will animate discussions on safety through worksheets and other materials on different themes.

Why set up Safety Clubs?

Although safety is a priority for schools, parents, communities, and the government, its ownership remains diffused.

Objectives of setting up safety clubs in schools across India are to:

  • Help establish an entity that acts as the champion or beacon of safety in schools — for students, teachers, management, and parents alike
  • Develop a knowledge property — a working idea — that can be scaled up with the support of partners
  • Build a sustainable peer-learning program for students

In the context of NSSC, the National Safety Science Quiz (NSSQ) is an effective way to:

  • Make young minds think about safety
  • Safety-science terminology and concepts
  • Increase social consciousness and sensitivity
  • Help create India’s next generation of Safety Ambassadors
  • Take the first step towards developing safety education in schools
